Who will build your Home?

5 Key roles to fill before you start building your Home

1. Architect

The architect is responsible for designing your home's layout, ensuring that it meets building codes and zoning regulations. They will work with you to create a blueprint that incorporates your preferences and needs while keeping functionality and aesthetics in mind.

2. Structural Engineer

The structural engineer works within the design-build team to ensure that your home is structurally sound and safe. They will calculate load-bearing capacities, design beams and columns, and inspect the construction process to ensure that everything is up to standard.

3. Quantity Surveyor:

A quantity surveyor is responsible for managing the costs of your home building project. They work within the design-build team to estimate the costs of the project and ensure that it stays within budget. They can also help identify potential cost savings or areas where you may need to adjust your budget to meet your needs. With the help of a quantity surveyor, you can ensure that your home building project is completed on budget and without any costly surprises along the way.

4. Builder:

The general contractor is responsible for overseeing the construction of your home from start to finish. They will hire and manage subcontractors, ensure that the project stays on schedule and within budget, and handle any issues that may arise during the construction process.

5. Project Manager:

The project manager coordinates all the different professionals involved in the project. It is tempting to avoid having one as it may seem they are not doing anything in particular. Sometimes the architect assumes this role. When they do not, which is often, the client has to step up and do this.

The one role that is often overlooked is that of the project manager. Few small scale projects have project managers. This is a critical role that has to be filled. Architects or Builders sometimes fill this role. Sometimes the client has to do this. Understanding the necessity of this has signifact impact on the construction process. There are other professionals you can bring onboard such as electrical engineers and interior designers. This will depend largely on the scope and scale of the project.
